If you are serious about the technical mastery of the guitar from Guitar Hero, you have your work cut out for you. Achieving expert status is not not be reached by picking at your guitar noodling and guitar hero. You'll have to work that and not be frustrated. The average person tends to be impatient and give up easily. Like everything in life, if you are patient, strong and diligent you can accomplish most things.
Tip One – Go Slow
The mastery of the guitar of Guitar Hero is not much different than learning to Play a real guitar (Of course, learning to play a real guitar is much more complex – but the learning strategies are similar). The most important thing you can do is slow down. You are training your reflexes and muscles to react in a very refined and complex and you need to do ensure that every movement you are learning is perfect.
Most of us learn to play the guitar (or Guitar Hero) playing too fast, make lots of mistakes and hope that these errors will eventually just disappear. Well, they will not!
If you make mistakes while you play then that's what you practice and learning. You're playing to improve your errors. For most people, the only way to eliminate mistakes and play as perfectly as possible is to play slowly.
Once your muscles begin to memorize the patterns of speed naturally develops. For the most part, you do not need to work on speed. Work on accuracy and the speed will come effortlessly. Enjoy the slower tempos in Practice Mode.
Tip Two – Practice short sections
One of the worst things you can do is play the song again and again. Most of the players is that there are about seventy-five percent of the song that is not too hard, and about twenty-five percent who did stumble.
Thus, work on the hard parts. Isolate sections that give you problems and work them slowly. If you only twenty minutes to play, why spend fifteen minutes to play parts that are easy. It will not help you improve.
Unfortunately Most of us like to do things that are fun. Working hard parts are generally frustrating and feels a bit like work. We prefer just play the parts we can do the same.
I recommend you take the middle path. Spend some time doing serious work on difficult passages, then forget it and just have fun.
Point Three – Practice each hand separately
You find may be beneficial to try to practice each hand separately. In other words, the work on hand scraping and then work on the fret buttons.
Point Four – practice your hammer-ons and pull-offs
You've probably noticed that the border around the note changes color during tempos fast. This means that you can stop and just scratching the Play button box (which would be the equivalent of hammer-ons and pull-offs on a real guitar). What you would do is hit the button scratch on the first note and then play the rest of the note with the fret buttons. Make sure your rhythm is correct.
Tip 5 – Mastering the Whammy Bar
Each time you press a long note, you can begin to learn to work the whammy bar. This will help increase your Star Power. The faster you move the whammy bar up and down the more points you earn.
